Privacy Policy for INTENT

This Privacy Policy explains how the INTENT application ("we", "us", or "the App") handles information when you use INTENT, an AI-powered RSS reader for Android.

By installing or using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

1. Overview

INTENT is designed around privacy:

• No account or sign-up is required.
• Your subscriptions, articles, and reading history are stored locally on your device.
• The AI features (such as the daily quote) run on-device by default. An optional cloud mode (BYOK) lets you use your own API key with a third-party model provider — see Section 5.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information, and we do not run advertising or third-party tracking.

2. Information We Collect

We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on our servers. The App does not operate a user-data backend.

The only information you provide is optional and stays on your device, for example:

• A display name used to greet you on the Home screen;
• The RSS sources you subscribe to;
• Reading history, read/unread status, and reading-time statistics;
• Appearance and notification preferences.

3. How the App Uses Your Device

• Network access: The App fetches articles and images from the RSS sources you choose to add. Requests are made directly from your device; those servers may see your IP address and are governed by their own privacy policies.
• Background sync: The App periodically refreshes your subscribed sources using the system's background scheduling.
• Local storage: Subscriptions, downloaded articles, and settings are saved in the App's local database and storage.
• Notifications: The App may send notifications (e.g., a daily summary) if you enable them. On Android 16+, a lock-screen Live Update may display your reading progress.
• Text-to-Speech: If you use read-aloud, article text is processed by the TTS engine selected on your device.

4. App Permissions

The App requests only the permissions necessary to operate:

• Internet / network state: To download feeds and images;
• Post Notifications: To deliver updates and reading reminders (requested at runtime; you may decline);
• Promoted Notifications (non-runtime): Used for Android 16 Live Updates, where supported.

No other permissions are requested.

5. Third-Party Services and Content

• The App displays content from third-party RSS sources you add. We are not responsible for the content or data practices of those sources or any linked websites.
• Optional cloud AI (BYOK): If you enable cloud mode, article titles and summaries are sent directly from your device to the third-party model provider you choose, in order to generate the quote and summaries. Your API key is stored encrypted on your device and is never collected by or sent to us. These requests are governed by the selected provider's own privacy policy and billing terms; when cloud mode is off, no such requests are made.
• You may optionally use third-party tools (such as RSSHub or WeWe RSS) to generate feeds. Such services are independent and have their own privacy policies.
• Articles may link to external websites. Visiting those websites is subject to their policies, not this one.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

• Downloaded articles are retained on your device according to your retention settings and may be cleared automatically.
• All data (including any stored API key) is removed when you uninstall the App or clear the App's storage.
• You may export your subscriptions as an OPML file at any time.

7. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

8. Security

Because your data is stored locally and no account is used, exposure is minimized. API keys are protected using the Android Keystore. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted within the App or on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
